San Blas surfing and other adventure travel attractions

Darien Gap adventure travel destinations are a trendy thing in 2019. With 365 islands in total, island hopping is a must during a visit to the San Blas Islands. Companies like Cacique Cruiser specialize in adventures through the archipelago. You can opt to stay as long as you would like in the islands, as most of them have family-run casitas, which are open to travelers to the area.

For fans of surfing, beaches like El Borrego, Matanchen Bay, Los Cocos, and Las Islitas are ideal for surfing, especially during the summer when the waves reach great heights. At the famous Ramadas (small restaurants) located at the edge of the beach you can find instructors and rent surfboards. Do not miss this opportunity!

Isla Perro or in English Dog Island is a famous and well-visited spot by travel guides in the San Blas area. Isla Perro is beautiful because of the white sand beach, crystal clear water, palm trees and small bar with a volleyball field in front of it. You can even spend the night here in a tent or hammock. But most people come to Isla Perro for snorkeling in and around the shipwreck gunboat that lies around 50 meters in front of the beach, when tide is low you can see it hitting the sea surface. Because of this shipwreck the second name of the island is sometimes Isla Gunboat. Nature is taking over the ship and it is full of coral, plants and other sea life. You can see small fish hiding in the shipwreck but also bigger fish hunting around in the open sea around it. Therefore, Isla Perro is the #1 spot for snorkeling and relaxing in San Blas. This is one of the islands everybody needs to visit when traveling to Guna Yala. At Tao Travel 365 we believe in eco-friendly travel preserving the beauties of nature and forming meaningful human relationships with the locals, while adhering to our Tao philosophies that focus on being in balance with yourself and with nature. Few locations include Isla Isabel National Park, This island was cataloged National Park for being the habitat of a great variety of birds. Your visit will be unforgettable as you will enjoy sunrises and sunsets framed by the Pacific, plus you will have the possibility to camp one night on the island. If the visits during the winter opens the eyes well because they will pass whales.

Visiting San Blas is mainly about enjoying the beauty of the nature and spending your time relaxing on these incredible islands, think of it as a way to get away from it all. I find that it’s the small things that you can do on these multi-day, get aways that make them unique. Here are a few highlights of the speedboat trip I did with San Blas Adventures from Colombia to San Blas.

The Kuna people are the indigenous tribe that inhabit some of the islands. We had the chance to be able to stay on one of their islands for 2 out of the three nights we were there. On the second night we had the chance to play football with the kids and hang out at the local bar in the evening. They’re very welcoming people, and it was definitely a great experience to see the way that the Kuna people live.

The archipelago has 365 islands picturesque and palm tree covered, uninhabited and set in indescribably beautiful aqua waters. When famous author John Le Carre of The Tailor of Panama stayed in San Blas his comment upon taking in an island view was, “This is not paradise, this is heaven.” This is the place to go if you truly want to “get away from it all” to be seeped in and surrounded by nature. Owned by the Guna indians, they’ve kept everything natural and authentic. What a pleasure to spend a few days where there’s no concrete, glass or steel. The second major attraction is the Guna people- a beautiful ancient people, largely unspoiled by modern life. Read more at San Blas sailing.
