Use any spare foam pipe lagging as a door draught excluder – just cut a section to fit the bottom of your door, then slide it on to form a tight seal against the floor. You could also use spray foam insulation to fill any cracks and gaps in your walls or at the back of cupboards. Just be sure to check the can for all safety precautions. If you really want to take it up a level, call the professionals in to install loft insulation and keep all that lovely warmth from escaping through the roof.
When your Peter Brown engineer is performing a power flush, they’ll connect the special equipment needed to your central heating. We don’t need to take off any of your radiators to complete your power flush successfully. Special power flush cleaning fluid is pumped through your system and that begins to loosen the gunge and the rust that’s built up. If your radiator has cold spots, that’s where a build up of unwanted material has occurred and the power flush will quickly remove it. The sludge and the rust then start to come out of the radiator which your engineer will collect and dispose of it. Once your engineer is confident that they have removed everything from your system, they’ll flush it again until the water coming out of the radiators is clean and is acid- and alkali-neutral. The final touch is to flush the radiators again with a protecting fluid to impede any future build-up of sludge and rust. Read more details on https://www.peterbrown.net/harrow-power-flushing.html.

Watch out for mini-draughts. “Lots of draught comes through the letterbox,” says Potter. It’s worthwhile putting an extra barrier there in the form of a “brush”. They may be a nightmare for junk-mailers trying to force through that 15th pizza takeaway offer, but they could prevent a chill breezing through the house. The same goes for keyholes, which can be protected with “simple circular (keyhole covers) that slip over the top”, says Potter, especially with the older, wider keyholes. Cat or dog flaps can also be filled with some sheep’s wool insulation or pieces of blanket. “It’s amazing how even a small draught can make a room a lot colder, so if you can cut that bit of air out it immediately makes a difference,” says Potter.
